Notes:
- Alderney is endorsing its 2005 “Sea Alderney” tourism theme and the
nautical theme of this year’s Alderney Week with a new set of stamps from
Alderney features Hans Christian Anderson’s classic tale “The Little
Mermaid”.
- Designed by Nick Watton, this enchanting 5-stamp set commemorates the
bicentenary of Hans Christian Anderson whose magical and immortal tale
“The Little Mermaid” tells the story of the youngest daughter of the Sea
King.
- The 26p value shows the mermaid tending the garden of her undersea
castle home, the 32p stamp has her rescuing a shipwrecked prince, and the
36p depicts her leaving the lair of the sea witch. The 40p value shows
the now human mermaid forsaking the ocean to help the prince marry
another and, finally, the 65p issue features the lovelorn heroine amongst
the “daughters of the air”—a station between earth and heaven controlled
by the tears of naughty children.
